Appointments may be booked either in person, by telephone or online (temporarily unavailable - see below) and are available at either of our sites for all patients.
Temporary Diversion of Patient Care to St George Health Centre from 30th March 2020
We are following NHS and Public Health Guidance in restricting patients coming into the surgery and doing everything we can on-line, over the telephone or via video messaging. In order for us to continue to provide services to our patients, we have taken the decision to TEMPORARILY divert all patient care to the St George Health Centre site.
One reason for this is so that we can maximise the efficiency of our team who are already working at reduced capacity. The second reason is to be able to meet the infection control requirements as set out by Public Health England.
We appreciate that this will cause difficulties for some patients; we truly are doing the best we can under very difficult circumstances which may, of course, get worse over coming weeks. When the Covid-19 situation settles, we fully intend to operate from both sites again.
Thank you for your understanding, patience and kindness during this unprecedented period. It is very much appreciated by all of our team.
***All online booking of appointments has been temporarily suspended following public health advice regarding management of the spread of coronavirus - see gov.uk/coronavirus for further info***
To protect patients and staff and limit the potential spread of COVID -19 Coronavirus, Fireclay Health is offering same day GP appointments for both URGENT & ROUTINE GP appointments. We aim to manage as many problems as possible by phone.
An NHS 111 Covid-19 online symptom checker is available which will advise you on any action needed - please use this instead of calling 111 where possible as they are experiencing very high call volumes.
The practice will not provide a medical certificate for patients requiring self-isolation for coronavirus. By law, medical evidence is not required for the first 7 days of sickness. After 7 days, employers may use their discretion around the need for medical evidence if an employee is staying at home - Government guidance on coronavirus (COVID-19) is that employers use their discretion around the need for medical evidence for a period of absence where an employee is advised to stay at home either as they are unwell themselves, or live with someone who is, in accordance with the public health advices issued by the government.
Should your employer ask for documentation, you can now get an isolation note from NHS 111 online or you can download and complete this form this form (Word format) or in pdf format yourself and pass to them.
Appointment Booking Guide
GP appointments are in high demand - before booking a routine GP appointment, please read the guidelines below to help you judge what appointment, if any, is required:
- Many conditions do not require a GP appointment - please see our Self Care pages
- to get Medical Paperwork completed by a doctor, make an administrative request (1 page pdf - 2 copies of form)
- Repeat Medication can usually be ordered without an appointment - see our Prescriptions section
- to find out Test Results, please telephone after 2pm one week after test taken or 2 weeks later for X-ray results
- Sickness Certificate (Fit Note) can be taken by telephone - see Fit Note Section
- you can book a Telephone Consult for queries that you feel can be dealt with by telephone
Online booking is currently available for GP appointments (including telephone appointments) and Flu vaccination (in season). More appointment types will be brought online in future, including Smears (women only, must have received Cervical Screening invite). Please do not book online appointments if you are unsure of your eligibility - call reception if you have any queries.
GP appointments are 10 minutes long. Routine GP appointments can be pre-booked up to 2 weeks in advance. We encourage you to see the same doctor for on-going problems. Before you book a GP appointment, please see our Appointment Booking Guide.
Nurse appointments vary in length according to appointment reason and can be booked up to 6 weeks in advance.
All patients who wish to be seen urgently will usually be offered a telephone triage call from the Urgent Care Team. By using a triage service we are able to ensure that clinically urgent problems are prioritised - urgent problems will be seen within 24 hours. Urgent care appointments are provided at both sites, however depending on the level of demand at each site, patients may need to be flexible and attend either surgery.
To help the triage Doctor prioritise calls, please provide a brief reason for needing to see/speak to a Doctor. If the Doctor assesses the problem as non-urgent, you may be offered telephone advice, medication or advised to book a routine appointment to assess the problem.
Booked Telephone Consultations
We are very aware that our patients lead busy lives. We now offer booked telephone appointments with a doctor. Many problems that don't require physical examination can be successfully dealt with over the telephone.
We encourage patients to attend the surgery where possible however home visits are available if you are housebound or too ill to come to the surgery - please telephone before 10am. Reception will ask for details to allow the doctors to assess the urgency. A doctor may telephone to obtain more information and establish whether a home visit is required.
Please remember that several patients can be seen in the practice in the time that it takes to make one home visit. There are also better facilities for examining and treating patients at the Health Centre.
If you cannot attend an appointment for any reason please inform us as soon as possible, this reduces the wait for appointments for everyone. All appointments can be cancelled online (if registered), whether booked online or not.
We send SMS (text message) and email appointment reminders where possible - please ensure we have your correct mobile number and/or email details. If you would like to opt out of text message reminders, please contact us. Please do not rely solely on these electronic reminders as service delivery is not guaranteed.
